President Muhammadu Buhari and other economic professionals are expected to speak on Nigerian sustainable development at the 48th annual accountants’ conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

The president will declare the conference open, while the Chairman, Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia, and the Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr. Babatunde Fowler, are among the paper presenters.

The conference, which holds in Abuja, from Monday, October 1 to Friday, October 5, is themed “Securing Our Shared Future: A Collective Responsibility”.

According to the Principal Manager, Corporate Communication, ICAN, Bunmi Owolabi, the theme was specifically chosen having realised that the nation is richly endowed with human and natural resources, which have not been optimally leveraged to achieve sustainable development set out by its founding fathers.

Other prominent speakers billed to speak on the different topics are: Mr. Uyi Akpata; Dr. Ed Olowookere; Mr. Henry Egbiki; Mr. Taiwo Oyedele; Professor Ibrahim Gambari among others.

The lead paper for the conference entitled “Securing Our Shared Future: Avoiding the Tragedy of the Commons” will be delivered by the President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), Ms. Rachel Grimes, who will provide an insight into how unhealthy politics of governance, poor leadership and tussle for resource distribution has stunted the nation’s social and economic development.
