CIA charges government on inclusive governance

The Chartered Institute of Administration (CIA) has inducted about 126 new members into the various grades of membership of the institute.Besides, CIA also stressed the need for government at all levels to recognise the input of professional bodies in governance.

During the 41st induction ceremony, the President and Chairman of Council, Prof George Chima stated that the new inductees completed the prescribed course of study and passed the necessary examinations.

Chima who hinted that admission into the professional membership of the institute was tasking and rigorous said this was essential as the body prides itself with excellence and professionalism.

He added that those desirous of its membership must be equipped with requisite administrative knowledge and skills to function as such.While charging the inductees, to adhere strictly to the institute’s code of ethics, he added that being a member of the institute presents them the opportunity to join credible network of competent administrators.

“As members, you would be required to subscribe and adhere strictly to the institute’s code of ethics. As professionals, we are required to place public or employer’s interest above self interest in our respective organisations. This has been a great challenge to our nation and many professionals have failed in this area.

“Very often, we read and hear about professionals who have abused their offices and the confidence reposed in them. Suffice it to say that poor corporate governance and inefficient administrative process and procedures are largely responsible for most of these unwholesome practices.

“CIA is out to check this malaise and has continued to train and equip its members to effectively perform credibly. I hereby encourage you to be good ambassadors of the institute in and out of your place of work.” Chairman, Membership Committee, Dr. Josephine Okeke, urged the government to recognise the input of professional bodies in governance.

He stated that this would fair well in the administrative and economy growth of the nation.“Professionals are not playing active roles in cooperate governance, government should make effective use of professionals as this would go a long way in solving the economic challenges of the country.“When government involve professionals in what they are doing, they can give advice because our role is advisory, we can give recommend on how things could be done effectively.
