THE Chartered Institute of Personnel and Management of Nigeria, (CIPM) on Tuesday in Lagos urged its members to ensure that they maintain professional best practices in all their dealings.

Specifically, the President of the institute, Anthony Arabome enjoined members to engage in proper HR professional conduct, while ensuring that they strictly adhere to and uphold high standards of professionalism in the workplace.

Besides, Arabome who spoke at the induction ceremony for 93 new executive members tasked the new inductees to enshrine best professional practices as mandated by the ethics of the human resource profession.

“The responsibility of extolling best practice in HR management falls on us as an Institute at all levels of the economy, be it the private sector or the public service. It is our hope that you would raise the consciousness of CIPM in organizations across all sectors of the economy and create a potential lever for the Institute through the various organizations you represent. We therefore also expect that you, in your individual and collective capacities, to commit to continuous self-development through self-learning, experience-sharing and thoughtful application of best practices in your areas of work.

As full members of this prestigious professional body, it is expected that you continually demonstrate best practice in the development and effective deployment of your competencies as human resource management professionals and by so doing, command due respect our profession deserves, through the pedigree of your contributions to organizational performance and corporate success”, Arabome said.
Charging the new inductees on the morale of the profession, he said “our charter status not only confers on us the responsibility to regulate the practice of Human Resource management in Nigeria, we are also mandated to promote excellence in the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills in order to effectively contribute towards sustainable National development”.
Explaining the rational behind the executive induction, he said the executive route programme is geared towards attracting business leaders and HR practitioners at the senior management/executive level or in a cross-functional management role in structured and recognized organizations across the various sectors of the economy.

According to him, the programme is also designed to provide an opportunity for executives and business leaders in a cross-industry peer assist format to support each other through knowledge diffusion and engaging discourse on contemporary management issues extending beyond organizational success and into strategic national issues around nation building, Vision 2020, Millennium Development Goals, among others.
“Today’s ceremony records the induction of 93 brand new executives to be admitted as Full Members of our great Institute through the Executive route.

You will find the mix and quality of the inductees at this ceremony to be a clear testimony of the stringent assessment process that you have all undergone and on the basis of which you been adjudged by the Council as possessing the requisite competence and cognate experience in Human Resource Management. It is therefore with great pleasure, on behalf of the Governing Council of our Institute, that I heartily congratulate you all for having met the rigorous requirements leading to your admission into full membership of our great Institute. Our code of conduct provides practitioners with an ethical ‘compass’ critically needed to successfully navigate the ever-changing world of work and increasingly challenging socio-economic environment of work.
