CITN pledges support for stakeholders on joint tax board

The President and Chairman of Council, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN); Mrs. Olateju Somorin who spoke at the 36th induction ceremony of CITN in Lagos said the professional body aligns with the revised policy.

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has pledged its support for stakeholders over the changes introduced in the revised policy proposal to enact an Establishment Act for the Joint Tax Board to strengthen and reposition it for greater efficiently.

The President and Chairman of Council, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN); Mrs. Olateju Somorin who spoke at the 36th induction ceremony of CITN in Lagos said the professional body aligns with the revised policy.

Her words: “The creation of the Office of Tax Simplification to be responsible for continuous improvement on tax legislation and administration; a Tax Policy Implementation Committee (TPIC) is to be put in place to regularly monitor compliance, review tax policy and make appropriate recommendations.

“The National and states Houses of Assembly are encouraged to establish a taxation committee to focus on tax matters and collaborate with the TPIC to achieve its aims. Government should make concerted efforts to ensure that taxation is taught at all levels of education.”

She assured that the CITN would join hands with relevant stakeholders in achieving the set objectives of the revised policy and urged the new inductees to be active in the programmes of there district societies at their areas of residence or work.

“This is the only way you can contribute to the growth of the Institute and make yourselves relevant to your professional calling either as tax practitioners or administrators.

“My appeal therefore, is that we should eschew all acts of unethical practices, be prudent and accountable in all our dealings, especially in professional services to our clients. Copies of the CITN Charter, which also contains the membership rules and practice guidelines are available for interested members to guide your activities as members of the Institute,” she added.
