Crisis hits Ebonyi NLC as faction suspends chairman

The Ebonyi State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has been engulfed with fresh crisis as a faction of the state congress suspended its Chairman, Ikechukwu Nwafor, over gross misconduct.

This comes as the embattled chairman described his removal as null and void and politically motivated and that his alleged removal did not follow due process.

The state chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and Vice Chairman of the congress, Leonard Nkah, led the faction who suspended Nwafor and announced himself as the Acting Chairman of the NLC.

In Communiqué issued at the end of its meeting, the faction accused Nwafor of failure to account for all the monthly stipends and subventions received on behalf of the congress from the state government and other sources on month by month basis.

He was also accused of failure to account for the proceeds to NLC from government donation of four commuter/mass transit buses with additional N2 million.

The faction further accused Nwafor of embarking on arbitrary employments and payment of salaries of staff of congress without seeking approval of SEC whose constitutional mandate it is to embark on it.
