The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appointed a Nigerian, Haroun Harry Audu into a pool of Resource Persons for the Commission Headquarter.

Audu, who is a marketing communications consultant, legal practitioner and public affairs strategist, was appointed into the role of Communications Expert to oversee and execute the communication and visibility plan of a European Union fully funded project in support to ECOWAS Drug Unit Advocacy, Monitoring and Coordination Capacities. The operational location of the project is in all ECOWAS Member States and Mauritania and is consistent with the ECOWAS Regional Action Plan. The appointment takes immediate effect.

The first phase of the European Union-funded project will be concluded in November 2018, subject to renewal. Audu is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and he currently serves as a member of its Governing Council. He is also an Associate Registered Practitioner in Advertising, a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM); a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and a member of the African Council on Communication Education (ACCE).

The project is to contribute to a reduction of drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking and related organized crime in West Africa by supporting the implementation of the Regional Action Plan that has been developed by ECOWAS to address these issues. A new ECOWAS Drug Action Plan has been adopted for the period 2016-2020.
