ERA/FoEN urges youths to develop interest in leadership
Executive Director, Environmental Rights Action/Friends of The Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN), Dr. Godwin Uyi Ojo has urged youths to embrace education and take up leadership positions to ensure speedy national development.
Uyi Ojo, who described the roles of youths in nation building as pivotal, asked them to eschew social vices for a better future and the social political development of the country.
Speaking in Benin City during a youth Empowerment programme organised by the Environmental Rights Action/Friends of The Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN) tagged, ‘Environmental Education And Renewable Energy Workshop’, Uyi said youths must make contributions to societal growth and development and take up leadership roles.
He added that the youth Empowerment programme targeted at youths is aimed at challenging youths to become better persons that will be useful to the country in the quest for nation building and national development.
According to him, leadership does not mean being involved in partisan politics, but in being among the best in their contributions to societal growth and development.
Delivering a lecture on the topic, ‘The role of the youth in nation building”, President and Founder, Foundation for Good Governance and Social Change, Austine Osakwe said the future of the country lies in the hands of youths.
He added that youths must rise and take up the destiny of the people and turn their lives around for good.Osakwe said youths are generational leaders, adding that every good leader must also be a good follower, who should seek intervention in repositioning critical areas of the economy.
“If we must first contribute to building Nigeria, we must first build ourselves. We must embark on a process of moral purification and rejuvenation to become better youth to build the nation and take leadership roles”, Osakwe said.
