The National Industrial Court (NIC) sitting in Abuja has granted judgment in favour of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Senior Staff Association (FOBTOB) against Grand Cereals Nigeria Limited and Spring Waters Nigeria Limited, over the sack of their members.

In a ruling delivered by Justice O.Y. Anuwe in Suit No: NICN/ABJ/325/2016, he granted relief that 28 members of FOBTOB whose employment were terminated and prematurely retired for unionising were to be reinstated immediately.

The NIC further ordered Grand Cereals Nigeria Limited and Spring Waters Nigeria Limited to pay the salary arrears and allowances of the 28 employees from the date of their termination up till the day the judgment was delivered.

It said this should be given less any amount that may have been paid as redundancy or terminal benefits when their appointments were terminated.

The companies were also ordered to pay the backlog of check-off dues to FOBTOB from 2015 till date.

The National President of FOBTOB, Comrade Quadri Olaleye and General Secretary, Comrade Iji Solomon stated that it was a great victory for the association and a great relief to the affected members and their dependents.

They said in a statement that the victory was a clear signal to employers who victimise union members and their executives, adding that the association would leave no stones unturned in the fight for justice for its members.
