The Gombe state government plans to spend about N30million on the training of 5000 youths and women under empowerment scheme tagged ‘G-hope.The state, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who disclosed this while speaking during the launching of the programme at the Pantami Township stadium, said the 5000 youths and women are selected from the 11 local government areas of the state.

He further disclosed that the scheme which comprises three aspects namely; ward vanguard, educational corps and youth for skills acquisition, is aimed at making the youths self-reliant, build their trust and enable them play positive role in making the state great.

According to the governor, each beneficiary will receive a monthly stipend of N5000, with the entire exercise expected to cost the state N30m, which is subject to renewal every six month.

“The essence is to keep the youth fully engaged to enable them contribute their quota to the development of the state as well as humanity in general. It’s a job that will make them job creators rather than job seekers and contribute positively towards poverty and crime reduction,” Dankwambo said.

While commending international donor agencies which he said contributed by intervening and mobilizing youths towards peace building as well as entrepreneurship, Dankwambo equally hailed clubs, associations and NGOs for rendering selfless service geared towards the growth and development of the state and county at large..
