Imo State Government has said it would pay the state civil service and other retirees under it only for August for now. But the pensioners are insisting that the state government owed them more than 34 months pensions.

In a statement signed at the weekend in Owerri, by the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Public Utilities, Dr. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, after the State Executive Council met, the state government said it would pay for August, while it continued to dialogue with the retirees on the mode of paying them the arrears.

The statement also said the EXCO resolved to employ computer literate five graduates per ward from the 305 Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), wards in the state, bringing it to a total of 1,525.

It also approved to conduct local council polls in the 27 local councils on the state in January 2017, while it finally resolved to relocate the controversial Ekeukwu Owere Market, Ama Hausa community, street traders and yam sellers along Douglas Road, in the Owerri Municipality, on September 30.
