Lafia varsity sacks nine over employment scam, offsets 12 months staff salary

Prof. Mohammed Liman, Vice Chancellor Federal University Lafia, has disclosed that the university had recently sacked nine of its staff for involving in employment scam.

He alleged that the culprits had paid certain amount of money to some persons who promised them employment, which was not enough to get them into the Varsity’s payroll.

The VC however advised members of the public not to give money to any staff in order to be given employment in the university.

The new Vice Chancellor of the University also said that management has settled one year salary arrears of its staff.

The VC stated this recently when members and officials of the Nasarawa State Chapter of the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) visited the university.

According to him, “we have been paying our staff in percentage since December 2015 to December 2016 due to shortage in our allocation.

“Beginning from December 2015, we noticed a shortfall of about N38 million in the university monthly allocation, which persisted till December 2016.

“After series of appeals to the Federal Government over the shortfall, they have finally heeded to our plea by releasing all the outstanding to enable us pay all staff salary arrears.

“We pursued the money without making any noise and the staff just saw the alert of all their outstanding.”

He added that the university had concluded work on the students’ hostels, which would accommodate two thousand students and it would be ready for use by this week.

He explained that the University, for the first time since inception, exhausted its admission quota of 1500 in the 2016/2017 academic session.

Prof Liman said the university had concluded plan to construct bigger lecture halls to accommodate the growing students population.

The VC therefore use the medium to called on the students to ensure they adhere strictly to the rules governing their conduct in the university as anyone caught going against the rules would be disciplined.
