A legal practitioner, Olayiwola Afolabi, has charged Governor Godwin Obaseki on revival of Edo Courier Service to complement measures so far taken by this administration to tackle unemployment menace in the state.

The company, which was established to leverage on the successes of the state-owned but now moribund Edo Line, had its fortunes plummeted when the transport line went down.

In a letter to the governor, Afolabi lauded his recent trip to China, just as he applauded the plan to develop the Gelegele seaport, noting that the project would generate thousands of jobs for the unemployed.

He lamented that the courier company “is gradually going into extinction due to lack of support from the Edo State Government. The Edo Courier workers are being owed over 40 months salary which is very discouraging. The vehicles being used by the company are all in deplorable condition.

The management has written on several occasions to your good office to rescue them from the predicament.

“It is our view that Edo Courier Limited, being one of the home-based companies, should be encouraged through sound vehicles, prompt payment of salaries and complete renovation of its structures.”

He commended the administration of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole for patronising the firm, urging Obaseki to toe same line.

When The Guardian visited the company, located on James Watt Road in Benin City, the premises and vehicles were in sore state.
