The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has berated the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai over massive sack of workers in the state.

The union also regretted that President Muhammadu Buhari endorsed the massive job cut, which is deepening poverty and impoverishing the populace.

The union accused Buhari government and his party of killing jobs that successive governments created NULGE said the sack of 22.000 teachers and 4,000 local government workers in Kaduna State by El-Rufai lacks merit in totality, against the civil service rules and unacceptable.

Speaking after the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union in Abuja, President of NULGE, Ibrahim Khaleel, called on President Buhari to call El-Rufai to order.

He said: “Gov. El-Rufai should understand that the approach to governance is different from that of private sector. What he was doing is a direct opposite to the promises made by the APC. The APC promised three things – to revamp the economic, fight corruption and create jobs. Employment creation is the one major promise upon which Nigerians elected President Buhari and the APC.

“Since they have been voted to power, Gov. El-Rufai has never created a job. His policies have made mess of the person of President Buhari.

“The cabal within the government and the activities of the Kaduna State governor have completely disconnect President Muhammadu Buhari from the people. He should call El-Rufai to order and to have a rethink on the policy he introduced in Kaduna State.”

He alleged that the Kaduna mass sack is a pre-condition for a World Bank loan, saying, “We call on Governor El Rufai to have a rethink of this neo-liberal policy in Kaduna state from the World Bank. We were reliable inform that El Rufai was looking for loan from World Bank and part of the conditions given to him was to downsize workforce.

“El-Rufai is considered an agent of destruction. He has the capacity of destroying APC as a party.”

Speaking on the on-going efforts at granting financial autonomy to local government councils, Khaleel described the statement to the Speaker of the House of Representatives that Houses of Assembly should be held responsible if the proposal failed is very sensitive and instructive.
