Petroleum marketers elect executives

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Suleja-Abuja depot has elected Salihu Abdullahi Butu and Emeka Ekwesili as chairman and vice chairman respectively to pilot the affairs of the association in the next five years.

A member of IPMAN’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Yahaya Alhassan said conducting elections in the region has been most challenging after several attempts to conduct the election in Kaduna ended inconclusively

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Suleja-Abuja depot has elected Salihu Abdullahi Butu and Emeka Ekwesili as chairman and vice chairman respectively to pilot the affairs of the association in the next five years.

Secretary and Treasurer, Isiaka Bello and Gobir Baba Ndaba emerged unopposed.

Butu polled 292 votes to defeat Yahaya Alhassan who scored 60 votes while Ekwesili defeated Nura Kabir with 237 votes as against 119 votes.

During the elections in which only the chairman, vice chairman and chief whip were contested for, Ahmadu Danmagani defeated Nurudeen Mohammed and Isa Mohammed Saba to emerge the Chief Whip.

Also, eight other positions that formed part of the current Suleja-Abuja depot IPMAN leadership including Treasurer, Legal Adviser, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General, Financial Secretary, Auditor, Public Relations Officer, Organising Secretary were returned unopposed.

Speaking in an interview shortly after the election, which took place at Yankees Hotel, Suleja, the National Secretary General of the body, Zarma Mustapha charged the new leadership of the association to ensure that they carry every member along.

Mustapha said he was happy that the skirmishes bedeviling the association at the national level did not affect the conduct of the Suleja-Abuja depot election, adding that he was happy that virtually all the national officers were in attendance to witness the election.

The Secretary who however, expressed the optimism that with the successful election of the Suleja-Abuja chapter, IPMAN would come out of its challenges stronger and therefore called on members to support the Butu and Emeka led leadership for the growth and development of IPMAN at all levels.

In his acceptance speech, Butu thanked members of IPMAN from across the country for finding him and others that emerged victorious at the election worthy to serve in the various capacities.

The Area Commander, Nigeria Police Force, Suleja, ACP Paul Odama, who monitored the election with other security operatives including; SSS, Civil Defence Corps, Army, Suleja Emirate Vigilante, among others, described the exercise as generally peace.
