As part of its effort of rewarding good deeds among Nigerian business reporters PwC Nigeria is set to hold its yearly media excellence award.

PwC Nigeria, in line with its purpose to “Build trust in society and solve important problems instituted the annual media excellence award for business reporters in Nigeria, with the inaugural edition scheduled to hold this year.

According to a statement by the professional services firm, the award is open to professional journalists on full-time employment and freelancers working in Nigeria, who have produced at least a story that falls within the categories covered by the award and that is available on a platform whose primary audience is Nigeria.

The categories listed for the award includes tax, capital markets, SMEs and business/economy reporting and is open to journalists in the print, broadcast and online media channels.

Country Senior Partner PwC Nigeria, Uyi Akpata, while commenting on why the firm decided to institute this award said:“We have for some years now, focused on the media as part of our Corporate Responsibility strategy, building the capacity of journalists in Nigeria through our annual Capability Enhancement Workshops for journalists. This workshop is now in its third year.

Given the success registered thus far with that initiative, we decided to expand it with the institution of this award.”

“Our effort in this regard is in recognition of the very important role of the media in society and in particular, the role that the media in Nigeria has and continues to play in informing and educating the public especially around taxation, the capital market, SMEs and the economy.”

Journalists selected in each category as winners will be named then Journalist of the Year in that category and will receive a cash prize of N500, 000.00 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira). These winners will be announced and celebrated at a gala night billed to hold later in the year.
