Deputy Chief whip of the House of Representatives and the member representing Owan Federal constituency of Edo State in the House of Representatives, Pally Iriase, yesterday attributed the challenge facing pensioners and civil service to the premature retirement of thousands of civil servants in the state.

He alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led administration in the state under Governor Lucky Igbinedion deliberately retired the civil servants without any plan to pay them their gratuities nor pensions.

This he said, contributed to the challenges pensioners face in the state today.
It would be recalled that pensioners on Monday protested non payment of salary arrears spanning seven to 42 months and last week, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu accused the government of Adams Oshiomhole as decimating the civil service.

Speaking to journalists in Benin City, Iraise said; “I was the Deputy Speaker in the state House of Assembly and I knew all that transpired then. There were certain things that I heard recently which I would have loved to engage my friend (Pastor Ize-Iyamu) on, so that they either expunge them from their campaign talks or state the facts as they are.

“I heard Ize-Iyamu is accusing the Oshiomhole’s government of destroying the civil service, nothing could be worse than an attempt to stand the truth on its head or to re-write history. If anything it was the PDP government that nearly annihilated the civil in Edo State. Another point he has made is that this government, is to be held responsible for running down to the educational system.
