Representative gets Nelson Mandela pan-African honour

The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Local Content, Hon. Emmanuel Ekon has bagged the 2016 Nelson Mandela Pan-African Exemplary Leadership Award.

A Ghana-based Non-Governmental Organization-African Youth Global Network (AYGN) conferred the award on the lawmaker recently in Abuja.

With the conferment, the two-term legislator who represents Abak/EtimEkpo/Ika Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, has joined the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, The Amayanabo of Twon-Brass, King Alfred Dieti Spiff, former Minister of Aviation, Dr. Kema Chikwe, Managing Director of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Toyin Dokpesi, Director General, Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution, Prof. Oshita Oshita and the Chairman of Doyin Group of Companies, Prince Samuel Adedoyin, in the Pan-African Leadership Hall of Fame.

Speaking at the presentation, the President of AYGN, Dr. Laurent Agbemadji said the award was a way of appreciating Hon. Ekon for his immense contribution and commendable commitment to nation-building in his capacity as Chairman of Local Content Committee as well as the qualitative and effective representation of the people of his Constituency.

He said the lawmaker made massive impact on his constituent through his youth empowerment scheme, poverty alleviation scheme, assistance to the less privileged, community development initiatives, mentorship programmes for youths and public service delivery.

The AYGN President who spoke through the Nigerian Coordinator, Thank God Ofobuike disclosed that a Nigerian delegate submitted Hon. Ekon’s name for consideration during an International Conference in Accra, Ghana.
