Anyaegbuna wins U.K. writing scholarship  

Agilepen Launches Two Books
The 2012 Commonwealth short story winner, African region, Jekwu Anyaegbuna, has been awarded a scholarship to study Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia (UEA), United Kingdom. Anyaegbuna, a fellow of the Farafina Creative Writing School (headed by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie), and who has won numerous other literary awards, received the scholarship from The Miles Morland Foundation also based in the United Kingdom.

The university’s MA Prose Fiction prides itself as “the oldest and most prestigious Creative Writing programme in the U.K. It is uniquely focused on the writing of fiction. We take a rigorous and creative approach to enable you to develop your ideas, voice, technique and craft. Our students’ success is unparalleled – around 38 per cent go on to publish their work.”

Mr. Miles Morland set up the foundation, which bears his name in 2013, after a career investing in Africa via two companies he created, Blakeney Management and DPI (Development Partners International). Based in London, the Miles Morland Foundation (MMF) is a U.K. charity, which makes grants in areas reflecting its founder’s interests, and aims to support entities in Africa which allow Africans to get their voices better heard. It is particularly interested in supporting African writing and African literature.

Commenting on the scholarship award, Anyaegbuna, who had previously attended other literary workshops in Europe, said, “I am delighted… that the University of East Anglia has accepted me into its MA Creative Writing (Prose Fiction). I am superbly thrilled, beyond thrilled.”

Anyaegbuna, an accountant, will start the programe at UEA in September 2018.

Two books titled Attire of Satire (Poems) and Fathom Composition, Comprehension, Summary and Registers, written by Oiwona Andrew, and published by Agilepen Publishers Limited, will be launched on August 12, 2017 at 19 Ladipo Kuku Street, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos. Time is 12noon prompt.

The launch will be chaired by the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Benson Abounu, while the book reviewer will be Dr. Ayo Osisanwo of Department of English, University of Ibadan.

Andrew has had his books approved by NECO and some states’ ministry of education in Nigeria.
