Entry has closed for Queen Moremi Ajasoro (QMA) beauty pageant. So far, over 500 Nigerian ladies have applied for the pageant. Organisers have also expressed delight with the number of entries received for the competition given the diversity, statistics and stunning beauty of the ladies that have put in for the pageant. They declared that this year’s event, with the grand finale holding in Lagos in November, would be keenly contested for and that the judges would have a tough time deciding on the queen.

Participation is exclusive to young girls of Yoruba descent. While speaking on the drive behind the initiative, Ms. Bodunri emphasised that QMA beauty pageant aims at sustaining the historical thematic virtues of Queen Móremí Àjàsorò, whose heroic legacies would continue to endure in the chronicles of both Yoruba and world histories.

Winner of this year’s edition will receive a cash prize of N5 million, which is meant for investment as part of the empowerment programme of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), patron of the beauty pageant. Other prizes include a brand new salon car and a wardrobe of designers’ outfits from leading fashion brands.

The winner also automatically becomes a cultural ambassador of the Ooni, as the pageant is expected to showcase ladies with beauty, strong presence and aura, intelligent, and cultural awareness.

While speaking on the virtues of Queen Móremí Àjàsorò, the Ooni said, “Móremí Àjàsorò represents an indelible new dawn of great awakening for the development of the Yorùbá culture.  This mission is very close to my heart and touches my global re-enactment of the Yorùbá culture.”
