Warri, Delta State commercial city, is set to host a world class cultural extravaganza, featuring the major ethnic groups in Nigeria with the objective of using culture as a tool for peace and unity.

According to the Chairman of Itsekiri Cultural Renaissance Initiative (ICRI), organisers of the fiesta, Mr. Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, “This is the third in the series of such events showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. We focused solely on Itsekiri culture in the first two editions but we have decided to expand the scope to reflect the sociological reality of Warri as a major meeting point of people from different parts of Nigeria, hence our chosen theme – Culture for Peace and Unity.”

While speaking further, Okotie-Eboh said, “Our objective is to utilise the cultural festival to unite the various ethnic groups residing in Warri, which is a microcosm of Nigeria, thereby engendering an atmosphere of peace, which is a prerequisite for economic and social progress. A peaceful and prosperous Warri will be beneficial to all, including the residents, Delta State and, indeed, Nigeria.”

Tagged ‘Warri World Cultural Festival,’ the peace and unity advocacy event is envisaged to be a 3-day affair, featuring regatta/floats and cultural performances representative of the various Nigerian ethnic groups residing in Warri, as well as a Miss Culture Beauty Pageant, where participants would be assessed based on their culinary and cultural abilities.

The first two editions of the festival were held in 2009 and 2012 respectively, with a massive turn-out of an appreciative audience, including top government functionaries, other dignitaries and traditional rulers across Nigeria.
