THE High Commissioner of Nigeria to Singapore, Nonye Rajis-Okpara, has assured that she would support the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) by attracting investors from Asia to invest in the nation’s bourse.

Rajis-Okpara, who made the assurance yesterday on the floor of the NSE in Lagos, explained that the Nigerian stock market would  benefit from the just concluded Nigeria, Asian roadshow which strategically engaged Asian investors to invest in the Nigerian capital market, saying, “my office assured of our readiness to support NSE to expand into Singapore and Asian as a whole.”

“The primary function of the capital market is to help provide liquidity by giving sellers a place to liquidate their shares holdings. Thus the NSE has become a prominent exchange while the nigerian financial sector has revived the task of the transformation agenda of the federal government,” she said.

She commended NSE management for the transformation of the exchange which was made possible by transparency, ethical dealings, integrity and professionalism, saying that the NSE make history to become the first Africa stock exchange to join the inter-market Surveillance group admitted as a full member of the world federation exchange.

She urged the NSE to continue to meet the needs of its value customers in achieving highest level of competitiveness.

“I look forward to NSE becoming a global leader for initial public offer in the nearest future to raise more capital in new listing. As this will not only enhance the liquidity of the listed companies but most importantly send a positive message to the world about Nigeria growing international role in the financial world,” she noted.

The CEO of NSE, Oscar Onyema appreciated Rajis-Okpara’ effort  in making NSE trip to Asian successfully.

The NSE had in December 2014 embarked on a roadshow to Asia in its quest to attract more foreign investors to the Nigerian capital market.
