Experts have identified the urgent need to bridge the skills-gap, in order to support businesses in the building of resilience to survive the current adverse economic challenges.

This, they said, has become necessary, even as recent reports and assurances from the Presidency indicate that Nigeria would soon exit from recession, with prospects for a boost to the economy and businesses in the second quarter of 2017.

But to bridge the skills gap that would guarantee the sustained flow of income and contribute to the gross domestic product, a global network professionals under the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, is organising a two-day seminar targeted at micro and medium sized businesses.

The District Chairman, Edward Eworo, said the planned seminar, which is the 19th edition, is part of the chapter’s corporate social responsibility to empower members and the public with up-to-date skills that can improve their performance and productivity in their businesses and careers.

According to him, with the current spate of imports and capital flight, there is increasing yearning to look inward for the development of local content and outward for the export of finished and semi-finished products through low-cost business start-ups.

“We think we can assist new people with new hope, and perspectives in areas they can turn and still make meaningful living despite the recession.

“This year’s seminar would be run in two parts. The essence is to reach out to the micro and small business owners’ with skills that are peculiar to their needs and to reach out to owners of medium sized businesses. The two seminars are focused and staggered so that if you can’t benefit from one, you can benefit from the other,” Eworo said.

The events, which will run concurrently at different venues on the 9th and 10th of June, would have micro and small business owners focused on the theme: “Building resilient small businesses”, at the Nigeria Employer’s Consultative Association (NECA) House, Ikeja while the other would hold at Sheraton Hotel in Lagos.
