FCMB Women raises support for girl child education

The First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Women is offering scholarships to young girls in efforts to aid their educational pursuits.A total of 10 vulnerable girls in junior secondary schools within Lagos State were beneficiaries of the scholarship and back-to-school kits.

The donation and support to the selected girls were from the women bankers, done in line with the policy of FCMB to continually promote economic empowerment, poverty eradication and environmental sustainability through the education of the girl child within the society. The bank in partnership with JAKIN identified and selected ten girls from junior secondary schools within Lagos whose families prioritise the boy child education.

Speaking during the presentation of scholarship certificates and school kits, the Divisional, Head Human Resources and Strategy, FCMB, Felicia Obozuwa, stated that “following proposals from JAKIN on the group of identified underprivileged girls identified within the society, FCMB has selected girls raised by widows and orphans who would love to go to school, but would rather stay at home or take vocational trainings to support their family due to lack of opportunities.

She stated that the bank in further reiterating its commitments to promoting education of the girl child selected 10 of the most vulnerable students identified by JAKIN and issued scholarships that would take them through secondary school.

She noted that the bank is not just offering financial support, but the FCMB women will be attached to the girls and serve as mentors through their secondary school education as the idea of the bank is to advise them and to ensure they succeed.

The Divisional Head further stated that it is the mission of FCMB women to ensure that the girls are better equipped with the right tools and encouragement to be successful individuals in the future.

Also speaking, the Executive Director Finance, FCMB, Yemisi Edun, stated that partnership with JAKIN in providing support to the less privileged within the society is line with the Bank’s commitment to continually contribute to socio economic growth in the society.

She stated that FCMB women have come together with the commitment of ensuring that the girl child within the society is better prepared with the necessary education and support to prepare them for the future.

A beneficiary, Olusola Damilola, a Jss3 Student of Wesley Girl’s Junior Secondary School, Sabo, Yaba expressed gratitude to FCMB Women for engaging in such worthy initiative, she stated that the scholarship received will enable her and other recipient’s in achieving their dreams and aspirations of getting quality education and a better future.
