IN a bid to reward and encourage its deserving employees, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc recently hosted the 2015 Employee Awards during which it honoured 213 staff with different categories of awards.

At the event, which held at the company’s premises in Apapa, Lagos, the Chairman of the company, John Coumantaros said the awards were meant to celebrate hard work and diligence among members of staff of the company.

“We are celebrating all of you because you exemplify what we stand for – performance, family, loyalty and dedication. What we see today is the celebration of hard work and diligence. And I urge all our people to remain diligent and committed to all that we stand for,” Coumantaros said.

A total of 16 employees of the foremost food conglomerate in the country were honoured for being highly rated within the year while 34 employees were celebrated for being promoted within the period.

The company said the acronym, PIILOT, which it explained that it stands for Performance, Integrity, Initiative, Leadership, Ownership and Teamwork, represent its core values.

The company further explained that four employees who were chosen after a rigorous selection process, which started with nomination by colleagues, were recognised for exemplifying PIILOT as employees of the year at the event. Also, one employee, who had emerged as the overall best student at the Swiss Milling School was recognised.

Ninety-five other employees were recognised for their long services ranging from 10 to 35. This group has spent a cumulative 1,440 years with the company. Also recognised were 64 retired employees honoured for their meritorious services to the company.

In addition, special recognition was given to the Company Secretary, Alhaji Yunus Saliu, who would be retiring at the end of the year. The company also announced that Saliu would remain on the board of the company as a non-executive director.

“Saliu will be greatly missed by all of us. It is gladdening that he will be on the board and continue to provide his wealth of wisdom, experience and mentorship. We wish him well in his well-deserved retirement,” the Group Managing Director of the company, Mr. Paul Gbededo said.
