Renewable energyWORRIED by the shortage of electricity supply, which continued to slow economic growth in the country, an energy expert has called on the incoming administration to ensure that Nigeria’s abundant renewable energy option is rightly harnessed.

According to the expert who is also the Managing Director of Powercell Limited, Tayo Balogun, the pathetic challenge of power in the country may not be solved except proper attention is given to solar and other renewable energy options.

Balogun who spoke in Lagos, at a forum organized for power consultants revealed that his organization would partner with the incoming administration to ensure that necessary actions are launched in the area of renewable energy to the advantage of the country.

The event, which gathered power system consultants, project managers, building and construction experts, telecommunication and other stakeholders, also unveiled ABB uninterruptible power supply UPS designed to ensure power protection and continuous operations for industrial and other medium and large scale organizations.

Balogun stated: “All over the world people are going solar because it is very good, clean and reliable and will augment the pressure we have with gas to power”.
He decried the attitude of the Nigerian government and other stakeholders for failing to invest in solar, adding that it was high time the country to paid attention to solar.

He said the incoming government should ensure that state governments across the country are empowered to own power projects, saying that the initiative would bridge energy demands.

Balogun revealed that his organization was already working on a plan, which would help to light up rural communities across the country as part of efforts to ensure that the prevailing power challenge is addressed without delay.

He lamented that the country lacked human capacity in the area of power, urging the government and stakeholders to concentrate on training human capacity development as means of tackling the power challenges.

Speaking on the unveiled products, Balogun said the UPS is a power protection solution against all power failures, voltage regulation, power factor correction and harmonics. He stated that the products offer world-leading technology that gives real benefits to customers, adding that the products provide very low cost of ownership, highly reliable modular redundant designs, and small footprint in design that saves valuable floor space.
