The Lagos state government said that it has concluded plans to deploy additional 10,000 High Definition (HD) CCTV cameras across the State as part of the comprehensive Smart City Programme that seeks to provide a 24-hour driven economy.

Mr. Hakeem Fahm, Honourable Commissioner, Ministsry of Science and Technology, Lagos state, disclosed this during the 2018 Ministerial Press Briefing to commemorate the third year in office of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led administration held at Alausa, Lagos

According to the commissioner, Lagos state smart city initiative is an ambitious and all-encompassing project that will holistically address all sectors of the economy.

He added that, the main objective of the Lagos smart city initiative is to connect human capital, social capital and ICT infrastructure in order to address public issues, achieve a sustainable development and increase the quality of life of its citizens within the shortest possible time.

Fahm, explained that the first phase of the smart city project aims to address security, transportation and infrastructure programs like deployment of HD cameras with gantries, integration of the deployed HD cameras with the centralized emergency command and control centre (CCC), provision of road signage structure across Lagos state and provision of street lights all over the state.

The second phase of the project will see the deployment of 10,000 HD cameras, deployment of world class e-Government solution and world class Data center solution for the state, deployment of one key Alarm, provision of metro fibre network to serve as backbone for communication, Unified Communications with Smart phones for First Respondent Agencies such as police, fire service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and eLTE solutions.

According to him, “The security component will deploy thousands of surveillance CCTV cameras through the length and breadth of the State.

“The transportation component focuses on Intelligent Transport Service (ITS) and the connectivity component with provision of a metro fibre network through a major Internet Service Provider (IPS) that will eventually lead connectivity to various homes, offices and institutions in the State”.

The commissioner, in listing the achievement of the administration in the last one year, included the redesigned and upgraded Lagos State Online Recruitment and Testing Portal.

“The newly upgraded portal is an enhancement on the previous one in order to accommodate new features.

“The portal provides an online platform for registration, selection, recruitment and testing of prospective job seekers.

“This system provides an online testing platform that permits the use of devices such as computers and mobile devices without the need for a testing centre.

“Over 1,500 local government staffers were recruited in November through the portal,’’ Fahm said.
