Nigerite Limited has charged the Federal Government on the need to encourage local content development, by exploring areas where it has competitive and comparative advantage to get out of the current economic downturn.

Besides, it urged other manufacturers to increase their investments in the areas of research and development as part of measures to aid raw materials sourcing locally.

The Managing Director, Nigerite Limited, Frank LE Bris, gave the charge at the yearly distributors appreciation event recently in Lagos. He explained that the Federal Government must also as a matter of urgency create a conducive environment for manufacturing, while urging manufacturers to begin to look inward to source for their raw materials due to unavailability of foreign exchange for importation.

He stated that not all the raw materials can be sourced locally, but advised that companies must invest in research and development to look for close substitute for their raw material need.

LE Bris assured government of its support in achieving a diversified economy. He said the company’s 57 years history and a market share of about 30 per cent in its industry in Nigeria, has also played a vital role in creating employment opportunities for the nation’s teeming unemployed youths, boasting of a highly qualified skilled workforce with vast experience in different fields of its operations.

On the distributors’ award that took place across three regions of Nigeria before the Lagos edition, the Managing Director said, “The event was an opportunity for us to appreciate our distributors and also discuss with them, the achievements in the past one year. We are also looking at getting feedbacks from them as per the challenges they face selling our products and how we can improve upon our services.

“In the coming year, we are hoping to have a better relationship with them; we are hoping to keep bringing more quality products and having some new innovations while also meeting their needs. We are also going to be supporting them by organising trainings and seminars for them in order to help expand their business. We are also looking at creating sub-distributors for them, promoting their businesses generally.”

A distributor, Mrs. Margaret Opesanwo, commended the company’s drive in its distribution network, saying that the company has an excellent marketing and sales team that brings distributors up to speed about different ways to boost sales. She said this appreciation and award means a lot because it means we are doing very well with the company.

Another distributor, Akeem Tijani, said his company has been dealing strictly with only Nigerite products for the past 46 years, adding that Nigerite had over the years built a brand worthy of emulation. He said although the economy has been challenging, but lauded Nigerite for its doggedness and commitment in producing quality products meeting the yearning needs of consumers.
