THE Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Habib Abdullahi has commended the management of Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL) for its contributions to the Nigerian Maritime Industry.

Speaking after inspecting LADOL’s facilities along Badagry channel, Lagos harbours, Abdullahi pledged NPA’s support and collaboration in the areas of security, pilotage and safe channels among others.

He noted that if there are other companies in Nigeria that have contributed immensely to the nation’s economy like LADOL, Nigeria’s economy would have developed more than it has today.

A statement issued by NPA’s General Manager (Public Affairs) Capt Iheanacho Ebubeogu, quoted Abdullahi as saying: “I am very impressed and very proud as a Nigerian that a company owned by a Nigerian is doing well”.

He added: “As a landlord and technical regulator, NPA will continue to encourage all other companies in the maritime sector undertaking similar ventures.’’

Earlier, the Managing Director of LADOL, Dr Amy Jadesimi told the Managing Director and his entourage that LADOL is Nigeria’s first and only wholly owned indigenous Nigerian Deep Offshore Logistic Base which according to her provides world class solution in areas of deep off-shore support for maritime and gas projects, agriculture and fabrications.

She explained that the company has a vision of providing next growth opportunity that is aimed at changing the entire economic landscape of the country through the provision of 5,000 direct jobs and 50,000 indirect jobs for Nigerians.

Jadesimi expressed appreciation to the management of NPA for its support and cooperation over the years, which she said has given LADOL the opportunity she enjoys presently.

The Managing Director listed on- going projects in LADOL to include a passenger Terminal with an emergency response facility with a capacity to accommodate 1000 passengers which is due to be completed in 2017 She also mentioned an integrated Quay wall with a built design of 13.5Metre draught and 500metre long due for completion in February 2016.
While assuring that LADOL is determined to ensure that Nigeria attains the level of economic development like Brazil, Norway and China in maritime trade, she called for more collaboration from NPA and indeed Nigerians, noting that “the success of Nigeria depends on working together’.

LADOL recently emerged winner of the Sub-Saharan African regional free zones award and Winner of the Large Tenants award for Africa, in fDi magazine’s Global Free Zones of the Year 2015.

A statement explained that LADOL was also ‘highly commended’ as African Free Zone of the year.

Winning the Large Tenants award, LADOL Free Zone, according to a statement was praised for increasing some 37.5 per cent capacity between 2013 and 2014. The statement said: “Due to the high specification infrastructure, round the clock operations and focus on delivering transparent reliable service to the Deep Offshore oil and gas market, LADOL has been able to halve the cost of logistics support in Nigeria. This 50 per cent cost saving comes despite the fact that the facilities and equipment are all brand new”.

Two awards are given to LADOL, which are ‘Commendation for self-sufficiency’, and ‘Commendation for infrastructure improvements’, are according to the statement given for the first time and ‘reflect improvements such as the ongoing development of its new 24 MW power plant, due to come online in late 2017’.

fDi’s Global Free Zones of the Year celebrates zones that are best in class and which are reinvesting, expanding or upgrading.

LADOL Managing Director, Dr Amy Jadesimi, was quoted as saying: “ “The fDi awards review free zones from across the world, and for Ladol to receive these awards and be recognised in this way is a testament to the great work that the local team has done in putting our free zone on par with the world’s best.
