SON tasks local manufacturers on adherence to standards

The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has asked local manufacturers to maintain standards in production to ensure global acceptance of Nigerian-made products.Deputy Director, Standard Development of SON, Agboola Afolayan, who stated this at Ozubulu in Anambra, after certifying the product of Sea Horse Lubricant Industries, as meeting the global requirements and wholly certified for use both in the motor Industry and domestic consumption, said it was the only way Nigerian products could compete in international markets.
 
SON operatives had raided SeaHorse warehouse recently and displayed its products in the media as adulterated, substandard and unfit for use.But in what look like a reversal, Afolayan who led a team of SON officials including Olujie Nwaoma, the Anambra State coordinator on assessment/confirmation tour of the SeaHorse establishment said “after running thorough tests in the laboratory, we satisfy their products (Engine Oil and other lubricant) to be genuine.

“This laboratory at SeaHorse has been in existence since the company was setup. No one can put all these gadgets in place just because officials from SON are coming for inspection. We have been monitoring their products. We are satisfied with the company products”.

Commending the SeaHorse  management, Afolayan explained that the staff have been keeping record of all their visits from Abuja office with date and letter backing up events (feedback), adding that the minimum of visits to company was once in a quarter, as the quickly said they may visit unannounced anytime.

Afolayan who presented the MANCAP certificate to the Chairman of the company HRM Eze Ebuka Onunkwo, declared, “we have come to tell Nigerians that SeaHorse products are actually manufactured in Anambra.

“We have come, seen and certified that SeaHorse is meeting the global standards SON has finally certified that SeaHorse Products has quality standards fit for global acceptance and recommend for use for both private and industrial use especially in vehicle manufacturing industries”Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman of SeaBHorse Lubricant Industries Ltd, EzeEbukaOnunkwo declared his product as one of the best in the Nigerian market and has high value.

He  advised all vehicle owners and motor companies to ensure they utilize SeaHorse Motor Oil for better result.“The product is produced here in Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Anambra State; entrepreneurs should not concentrate industries in one area, but expand to the rural settlements.

“This is the think home philosophy reached by Governor Willie Obiano.Formally I was importing product for a long time, and to think home, I will established this company said , adding that he has now obtained the ECOWAS trade liberalization Scheme (ETLS), and ready to hit the West African markets.

While boosting of employing over 1,800 staff he disclosed that there is room for expansion, and to employ more hands soon.He lamented the challenges of the company to include inadequate power supply, stressing that there was huge reliance on generating sets and urged the Federal Government to improve power supply especially to industry zones.
