Wema Bank Plc has been awarded two International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certifications by the British Standard Institute (BSI), a leading organization in audit management systems and processes.

The certifications are the world’s highest accreditation for information security and service management.

Meanwhile, in a bid to reach out to people in dire need of help, workers of the bank have each donated a day’s salary into an initiative called Purple Nectar.

The initiative, designed to touch 10 lives positively while celebrating this year’s Valentine Day, is driven by staff with the support of management of the bank.

The Purple Nectar initiative is a shift from the conventional celebration of St Valentine’s Day, to showing love to people in the Nigerian society who are in need of immediate assistance.

These individuals were selected by staff across the regions in Nigeria, who currently face serious health issues/challenges ranging from cancer, kidney failure, polio, abandonment as well as other difficult life situations.

The ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 certification indicates that Wema Bank has designed, developed and established and implemented a template for improved IT services for both its internal and external customers, while the ISO/IEC 27001:2013, attests to the bank’s commitment to security of both customer and data.

The Head of Programme Management Office of the bank, Mrs. Nike Makanjuola, said: “The feedback from the auditors showed that compared to other banks audited in Nigeria, Wema Bank’s internal processes rank among the best in the industry. We will however, like to mention that continuous adherence to the processes, policies and procedures put in place during the implementation of the project are critical for us to continuously improve on Information Security and Service Management practices.”

The Managing Director, Segun Oloketuyi, who said the award came at a time the bank just secured its national banking license, noted the resolution of the lender to always abide by its philosophy of service excellence and customer focus across all service points.

Meanwhile, the donated salaries will be split equally among the beneficiaries, to be presented during this season, while members of the public are also encouraged to go to www.purplenectar.info to drop their valentine wishes for Wema bank’s staff special valentines.

Oloketuyi said: “This also serves as an opportunity for us to encourage the act of giving and affecting the lives of people positively”.
