Poised to boost fuel distribution in the country, an independent energy firm, Delmar Petroleum Company Limited has kicked-off the construction of a $200 million terminal and jetty located at Itak Idim Nne Ekpe, Ibeno Local Council Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The Executive Governor of the State, Udom Emmanuel, at the official ground breaking ceremony on Monday lauded Delmar group of companies for the choice of Akwa Ibom State adding that he has begun negotiations with other stakeholders on how to collaborate to realize the objectives of the project.

The ground breaking which was part of activities to mark Governor Udom’s one year in office, according to him has opened the window for the influx of oil and gas investors to the state.

Also, the Commissioner for Investment Commerce and Industry, Emmanuel Enoidem, stated that the project would employ 5000 people even as the area is projected to witness unparalleled development at completion of the project.

The Chairman\Group Managing Director, Delmar Group of companies, Austin Atimoh Odili said the petroleum Terminal/Jetty involves the development of a 700,000 cbm petroleum products terminal, which is expected to sustain the supply of petroleum products across the country.

He said: “The Delmar terminal project located at Ibeno in Akwa Ibom State involves the development of a 700,000 cbm petroleum products terminal. This world-class terminal, estimated to gulp about $200 million is proximal to Ibom Deep Sea Port, the Exxon Mobil’s Qua Ibo Terminal and new proposed refineries will have access to the deep sea via a Conventional Buoy Mooring system for loading and discharging large capacity product tankers from 30kt to 100kt”.

According to him, the rationale for locating the terminal in Akwa Ibom was to promote the state’s strategic position and unique logistics advantage within the Gulf of Guinea; to service its customers within Nigeria and West/Central Africa among others.

He said: “Delmar Petroleum has storage facilities for coastal and inland petroleum products, as well as the necessary skills, assets and infrastructure for supplying and trading refined products across the world. Our clientele includes the major international oil and gas companies and major retail and consumer enterprises in Nigeria.”

The Managing Director, Delmar Petroleum Company Limited, PekunTomori, said the terminal will be one of the largest terminals in Africa on completion, adding that the facility would aid reduction of long queues at filling stations when completed.

Tomori however assureds that the company would improve the well-being of the host communities by providing opportunities for them in technical areas, as well as skills acquisition through technology transfer.

A Director of Delmar Petroleum Company Limited, Mrs. Fifi Ejindu noted that 25 per cent of the people to be employed for the project will be women, adding that that the company would train the employees outside the country in skills needed to run the petroleum terminal.

The Paramount Ruler for Ibeno Local Government Area and Chairman State Council of Chiefs, Owong Effiong Achanga, expressed delight for the citing of the project in the area.

He solicited for the catchment area to be given priority in employment and pledged to ensure a congenial environment for the industry to operate.
