There seems not yet uhuru for electricity consumers in the country, as the electricity generation drops to 3,939 Mega Watts (MW).

Facts from the Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP), showed that the energy generation as at August, 2, 2015 stood at 3,939MW, as against the highest peak of 4,656MW recorded on July 15, 2015.

Noting that the actual energy sent out to distribution companies (Discos) stands at 3,862MW, the PTFP fact sheet revealed that the nation requires about 14,630MW to satisfy national energy needs.

Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has consistently increased its electricity wheeling capacity to comfortably deliver energy generated to the distribution chain.

The TCN in a latest feat announced that it has again raised the transmission capacity to an all-time high of 4,662 Mega Watts (MW). This capacity indicated that it can comfortably transmit the current energy generated in the country.

According to the General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Seun Olagunju, the new record was achieved Tuesday last week, and its expected to have significant impact on electricity supply to the final consumers.

Olagunju, who disclosed this in a statement, said: “The Management of Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, informs that the National Grid Transmission has recorded another peak of 4662MW.”

It would be recalled that TCN had announced the attainment of the previous peak transmission of 4656MW on Wednesday, 15th July, 2015.

Power generation and transmission have been recording new peaks above 4500MW following improvements in gas supply to the generating stations as well as equipment/infra-structure upgrade and enhanced human capacity of system operators.

TCN assures that it would continue to work at enhancing the capacity to transmit more quality power to the electricity distribution companies.
