KANO state is set to host 2016 National Conference on Agriculture for all Commissioners of Agriculture from the 36 states of the federation, some agricultural companies and institutions and other stakeholders from within and outside the country.

Revealing the readiness of the state, the commissioner of agriculture and natural resources, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, during a media chat in his office emphasised that, the state has already gone far in the preparation.

Gawuna disclosed that, a delegation from federal government has since visited Kano in preparation for the conference, which is scheduled for 7-12 February, 2016 stressing that, the local organising committee (LOC) comprising stakeholders has already been formed.

“The Permanent Secretary and a Director from the state ministry of agriculture and one Director from the federal ministry of agriculture have gone ahead to create all the necessary committees for the annual event,” he stated.

When asked about the conference, Gawuna said “We are going to present documents and policies from various states,  which are going to be adopted for the year 2016. Everybody is going to bring his input.
It is this input at the centre that they will gather and come out with a policy framework for the nation.

He assured that various contributions would come from different stakeholders that would be coordinated and used.
On what Kano would present at the conference the commissioner of agriculture said, “Our policies on agriculture are almost the same with that of the federal government.  So it is going to be the same thing.  The main drive of our policies at the moment is farmer-incentive and farmer-closeness. Kano is encouraging that government should be very close to farmers to remove the issue of middle-men in-between.”
