Governor Akinwunmi Ambode will tomorrow launch an innovative interactive market activation and road-show experiential initiative across selected markets in the Ibile divisions of the state to further strengthen his administration’s relationship with Lagos market community. Special Adviser to the governor on Community and Communications, Hon. Kehinde Bamigbetan, recently told newsmen in Ogba that the activities would celebrate Lagos communities. It would be a colourful atmosphere full of fun with gift items such as umbrellas, T-shirts, face caps that will be distributed, as rewards to the traders who have been law-abiding and supportive of the state government’s initiatives.

According to him, the Ibile axis, which comprises Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos-Island and Epe, will play host to the first batch of the market activation tomorrow, Tuesday, October 11 and 22, adding, “The markets initially to be engaged are Aiyetoro, Epe, Sabo, Ikorodu, Sura, Lagos-Island, Oke-Odo, Alimosho and Alaba international market Ojo”.

He also said the events would also serve to further drive home the seriousness of the ‘No Street Trading/Hawking’ advocacy of the government while consolidating on the market traders’ aspirations.

Bamigbetan stated that the initiative was in fulfillment of Ambode’s pledges when he assumed office last year, where he said ‘power under his administration will move to the communities and community development will be the beginning and the end of his governance processes.

According to Bamigbetan, “It is our duty to see how we can bring the content and activities of Lagos State government to the doorsteps of the people. As part of the inclusive governance, it is very important that the market becomes part of the process of what Ambode is doing”.

Bamigbetan, however, said the aim was not to manipulate anybody but to have conversations that both parties can benefit from, saying, “We are very objective and scientific about this; these traders would tell us what they expect from us.”

Also speaking was the Project Consultant and Managing Director, DD-IMC Limited, Mr. Tosin Bakare, who said he was happy to be part of the visionary strides of Ambode whom he describes as ‘exceptionally brilliant and focused’.

According to Bakare, “Not many governors in Nigeria can stand on the same pedestal of achievements with this exceptionally focused and brilliant visionary that God has blessed the people of Lagos with. Choosing to communicate with market traders shows that governor Ambode is indeed a grassroots man and fulfilling his promise of running an inclusive government”.
