Borno awards N1.6b contracts for nine mega primary schools

Borno State government has awarded contracts valued at N1.6b for the building of nine mega primary schools across the state, in a bid to address the issue of out-of-school and street children across the state.

Governor Kashim Shettima, who disclosed this recently when the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Ibn Garbai, paid him a Sallah visit at the Government House, Maiduguri, added that the development is also aimed at overhauling the state’s education system at the primary school level.

Shettima said the educational projects would also provide access to education for over 49, 000 children orphaned by the Boko Haram insurgency.

“We have awarded contracts for the construction of nine mega primary schools across the state. We are also building a mega school in Maiduguri deliberately for the children orphaned by the Boko Haram crisis.”

The nine schools when completed, according to him, would also have provision for accommodation, kitchen and sporting facilities.

He said that the policy action was part of government’s Post
Insurgency Plan (PIP), to safeguard the future of children orphaned by the six-year Boko Haram insurgency in the state.
