RECENTLY, a thanksgiving service was organised by elder statesman and lawyer, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite and his family to thank God for His faithfulness and protection over them all these years. Tagged “Advert IV Service of Holy Communion with a special thanksgiving”, the event, which held at St. Paul‘s Anglican Church, Breadfruit, Lagos, attracted friends and well-wishers of the celebrants.

Speaking on what informed the programme, Braithwaite told The Guardian that 2015 had been a year of rollercoaster with high and low moments.

“My family and I prayed and vowed to God that if we survived these dark days, we would collectively do a family thanksgiving and invite friends, family far and wide to celebrate with us. So, the ceremony was not a speech-making one, but all about singing praises, hymns and music to God,” he explained.

He also urged government and citizens to be focused and not be distracted by the present challenges, saying God will always see Nigerians through.

“We, the Braithwaite’s family are very grateful to God for all the care, protection and guidance throughout the years,” he said.

The elder statesman said government institutions from the judiciary, legislature and executive are very weak and advocated that they be overhauled and strengthened to bring sanity into the political terrain.

He enjoined Nigerians to patient with President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, as his government inherited some problems from previous governments. Rather, they should collectively support and expose corruptions and impunity. They should be patient with government despite low economy and security challenges. They should look up to God Almighty for His guidance.

In attendance were the Most Revd. (Dr.) Ephraim Adebola Ademowo; The Ven Odubena – Vicar, publisher of The Guardian Newspapers, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru, son, Toke Alex-Ibru, Tee Mark, men of God and church members among others.
