IN a two-in-one event that saw a large gathering of members of the Knights of St. John International, priests, religious and lay faithful of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins unveiled the much anticipated Catholic Faith Family Competition with a word of encouragement for all to embrace the project to enhance sound knowledge of the faith.

The unveiling, which took place last Tuesday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Ikeja, was also used to celebrate the 32nd Priestly Ordination of the Archbishop and his course mate, Msgr. Jerome Oduntan, Director of Education of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos.

Speaking about the project, the Grand President, Knights of St. John, Patrick Igwilo, noted that the project was conceived to deepen the knowledge of the church within the family.

The project, he said, would provide opportunities for families within small Christian communities and parishes to compete and then move on to deanery levels, while the grand finale would take place on September 18, 2016.

According to him, the project would be on two phases: the teaching, learning and monitoring and the competition phase, while prizes would be given to outstanding participants in the competition.

Commending the project, while describing it as heart warming, the Archbishop of Lagos unveiled the logo of the competition, which has a picture of a father, mother and two kids studying the Bible.

Toasting to the Archbishop’s 32nd priestly ordination, Director of Education, Msgr. Jerome Oduntan described Archbishop Martins as a thoroughbred gentleman, an outstanding administrator and a highly intelligent leader.

The Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Lagos, who is also the Parish Priest of St. Leo’s Ikeja and Spiritual Director of Knights of St. John, Msgr. John Aniagwu, condemned the alarming rate of corruption in the society and challenged General Muhammadu Buhari to ensure no one is spared in his effort to curb corrupt practices in the land.
