Crawford to host 39th physics institute’s conference

Final touches are being put into preparations for the hosting, by Crawford University, of the 39th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Nigeria Institute of Physics (NIP). The conference is slated to hold from Monday, October 10 to 14, 2016.

The theme of the yearly knowledge fair and festival of physicists is “Physics and the Sustainable Development Goals” with sub-themes in agriculture, energy and environment, agriculture and Food security, medicine and healthcare delivery among others.

At the event, which is expected to draw delegates from within and outside the country, papers would be presented; research findings discussed and debated, and new members inducted. The capacity of next generation physicists would also tested via contests and quizzes, in the conference, which would be declared open by president of the institute, Professor D.I. Malgwi.

The Director General, Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Professor L. A. Dim would give the keynote Address.

According to Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Dr. James S. Oludotun, who is also the Acting Dean of Crawford University’s College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CONAS), more than 100 abstracts have been received from scholars all over the nation to signify their interest in attending and rubbing minds on contemporary issues in the socio-economic and environmental milieu, as they affect the practice and praxis of the physical science.

Also, many corporate organizations that make use of the know-how of physicists, from a wide array of sectors, have signified their interest in sponsoring and participating in the summit.

“Everything is being put in place to ensure that we have not only a hitch-free, but also memorable four-day conference,” he said.
