The present harsh economic realities notwithstanding, the Delta State government has assured students of the state origin in tertiary institutions within and outside the country of its commitment to their welfare.

Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarships Board, Comrade Elijah Ologe,
told journalists in Asaba that the government will sustain the Students Special Scheme (SSAS), the Overseas Scholarship and other programmes of the board.

Ologe, who said that entitlements of beneficiaries of the 2014/2015, 2015/2016 SSAS and the overseas scholarship would soon be paid.

He added that the delay in the payment was due to ongoing verification being embarked on by the board, adding that the exercise was to ensure that only qualified students of the state origin benefit from the schemes.

He urged the beneficiaries to be patient with the state government, adding that, “Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is concerned about the wellbeing of all Deltans.”
