17 bag first class at Lead City varsity

Sunny Ade, Ademolekun, others bag honorary degrees

Foremost Professor of Public Administration, Ladipo Ademolekun, and famous Juju maestro, Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye (aka Sunny Ade), who recently turned 70, were among those honoured by the Lead City University (LCU), Ibadan, Oyo State, at its convocation for the 2015/2016 academic session.

While Ademolekun was honoured with honorary Doctorate of Science, Public Policy and Governance (Honoris Causa), the music ace bagged the same class of degree in Performing Arts (Honoris Causa).

A total of 17 graduands ended their sojourn in the institution in the First Class Division, with Edema Clementina, emerging the overall best graduating student with 4.90 CGPA.

Vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Olufemi Onabajo, in his address at the 9th convocation, said those conferred with the various degrees have been found worthy by the institution for such.

Onabajo, who said 493 graduands were awarded various categories of degrees and diplomas of the school, added that 248 of them were from the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, while 145 were from the Faculty of Sciences, and 68 from Faculty of Arts and Education. Twelve of the graduands left with diploma certificates, 11 with advanced diploma and nine with postgraduate diploma.Onabajo enjoined them to be employers of labour rather than job seekers.

He said, “Our graduands have been trained with a difference. We have instilled in you courage and boldness. You have been taught not to be overwhelmed by any situation, no matter how intimidating it appears. You are our enterprise graduates, equipped with skills to generate employment and be employers of labour.

“Your predecessors have made us proud from the constant glorious reports we receive about them, either from their various employers, or from reputable institutions abroad where they have excelled in their various postgraduates programmes. Yours will not be an exception.”

In his remarks, Adegeye, who spoke on behalf of the honourees, thanked the school for the honour accorded them, while urging the graduands not to be too ambitious, but respect what they have been taught in school.

Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who was represented by Vice Chancellor University of Ibadan (UI) Professor Idowu Olayinka, charged the graduands to be worthy ambassadors of the institution.
