ACE warns freshmen against involvement in cultism, drug addiction

THE Provost of Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo State, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, has warned freshmen that dire consequences await those who fail to heed the call to desist from cultism and other related vices during their sojourn in the school.

Ogen, who spoke during the opening ceremony of the 2015/2016 orientation programme for the new students, urged them to comport themselves and act in line with the school’s vision.

According to Ogen, the institution is renowned for its high academic standards and excellence since it was established in 1964, preening on the quality of graduates it has produced over the years.

The provost, who congratulated the freshers for their admission to the institution, which is affiliated to three notable institutions in the country, urged them to be obedient to their lecturers, be studious and desist from cultism.

He assured them that the school’s management has made adequate provisions for them by ensuring that they have unfettered access to basic infrastructure and facilities in the course of their studies.

During the second day of the orientation exercise, the college bursar, Mr. Ganiyu Abdul, took the new students through, “Students and Financial Transactions in the College.”

Dean of Student of Affairs, Mr. Olaniyi Olaluwoye, in his remarks admonished them to jealously protect the good image of the institution and shun vices.
“I will enjoin you to shun acts that will put you in trouble. Such acts among others are: cultism, drug addiction, examination malpractice, prostitution and other societal vices.”

Olaluwoye informed them that “prominent Nigerians like Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, the Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Senator (Mrs) Oluremi Tinubu, and of course our provost.

“Prof. Olukoya Ogen was once a student in this college. Adeyemi College of Education in general and the Alumni Association in particular are proud of him being the first alumnus to be the Provost of this great college,” the Dean said.

He reiterated the need to be ambassadors of the college as students and in the nearest future, saying “I am appealing to you to emulate these ones so that you can also become a good reference point in the nearest future.”

Miss Awe Taiwo and Akinkuotu Love, who are admitted to study economics and Physics/Mathematics respectively, expressed their enthusiasm for being among the lucky ones that gained admission into the school.

They pledged to be of good conduct, obedient, studious and wished to be alumni, who will someday become the provost of the college like Prof. Ogen.
