Educational materials worth N1.7m were donated to Cross River state university by a youth corps member serving in the state. The corp member, Mohammed Thompson while presenting the materials said he decided to take up the project as part of his community development project when he noticed the non-availability of books in the institution library, which he said has impacted poor reading culture among youths.

According to Thompson “We have libraries where books are outdated; where books that promote quality education are missing on our shelves. He called on the state government and other spirited individuals in the society to support the donation of books to schools especially institution of higher learning.

He also commended the American Corner, Calabar as well as the state coordinator of NYSC Ambekemo Eniola for their support in the fulfillment of his dream.Receiving the books on-behalf of the management of the university, the vice chancellor Professor Anthony Owan Enoh said he was excited to see a corp member bring out his widow’s mite o support education.

He said,  “ The corp member  has shown that he did not only get a degree, he earned it and it is not the quantity of the books donated, but the attitude because without books there is no university, I know the value of books, I hope other young men would emulate this kind gesture to the university community”. The Corp Member has earlier donated items worth N500, 000 to Internally Displaced people of Bakassi.
