Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents, Igbinedion University Okada, Edo State, Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, has charged the newly constituted council members of the university to improve on the gains of previous councils as well as take the development of the university to a higher level.

Speaking at the inauguration of the council members, which is the fifth in the series, the chancellor, who was represented by the former Edo state governor and deputy chancellor of the university, Lucky Igbinedion, challenged the members to engage in activities that will accelerate growth and advancement of the university.

According to him, “Upon your inauguration toady, it is my expectation that you will develop an elaborate and implementable strategic action policy, and boldly interface with all the necessary and relevant people and institutions on behalf of the university in order to make the institution greater than you have met it.”

Stressing the need for healthy collaboration between the council and the management team of the university under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eghosa Osaghae, he stated that while the council pursues the realisation of the prime philosophy, vision and mission of the university, the day- to-day management of the university should be left in the hands of the vice chancellor and his team.

He further stated that in view of the current economic situation, it is hoped that the council will drive policies to rekindle the entrepreneurial initiatives of the university and strive to link the university with industry, commerce and international organisations.Responding, Chairman of the newly constituted council, Prof Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah, pledged to take the university to greater heights.

The institution’s vice chancellor, Osaghae, on his part expressed that the university parades an array of erudite personalities comprising both council members and academic staff, who have distinguished themselves in their various field of endeavour.
