IPMA-UK certifies Nigerian managers, honour Tenebe, others

A TOTAL of number of 178 new inductees have received practising licences and certificates from the International Professional Managers Associations, United Kingdom (IPMA-UK). The IPMA licences are known as Certified International Professional Managers (CIPM).

The awards were given at the IPMA-UK 2015 Induction & Licencing ceremony, which held in Lagos recently. The exercise followed an intense and elaborate “post experience advance professional programme,” organised by IPMA-UK for top Nigerian executives, chief executive officers, managers, administrators, lecturers and other executives in other professional endeavours.

Head, Africa Regional Office of IPMA, Prof. Taiwo Feyi-Sobanjo, said the licences were meant to “acknowledge their high standing and give formal international recognition of their competency, skills, experience and leadership capabilities.

All the new inductees were awarded the Advance Professional Diploma in Organisational Transformation and Management Consultancy, the prestigious membership certificate and the practising license of the association from UK.

Prof. Feyi-Sobanjo in his remarks said the professional programme was designed to make participants learn and embrace current trends and be made to understand how other organisations around the world deal with organisational problems and challenges.

Notable academics at the event were also bestowed with honorary fellowships for their contributions to developing professional managers in various fields. The recipients were the Vice Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria, Professor Vincent Tenebe, registrar of the institution, Mrs. Josephine Akinyemi Prof. Sola Ogunsiji of Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso, Oyo State and Prof. Olufemi Adewoye of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo town, Oyo State.

In his goodwill message, Tenebe, who was represented by the school’s registrar commended the IPMA-UK for creating an enviable niche for itself as an experienced and versatile international trainer and manager of high-level professional administrators in the public and private domains.

Globally, the challenge of providing cutting edge professional administrative skills for people in leadership positions remains an issue faced by many countries like Nigeria. Underpinning this challenge is the growing and urgent need to train, retain and continuously refresh the knowledge and skills of people in leadership positions and each nation’s workforce in an increasingly globalised knowledge economy. IPMA-UK has proved to be a versatile resource body and versatile trainer in leadership education. This body may be pleased to know that its invaluable contributions to nation building are being noticed and appreciated not just in our immediate environment, but also across the world in general,” Tenebe noted.

Chief Executive Officer, IPMA-UK, Prof. Mike Wooi, in his remarks stressed the need for professionals to always live up to what they say, or the promises they make, while the Chairman of IPMA-UK, Allan Sensicle, charged the awardees to always embrace positive change and not insist on old ways of doing things, to avoid being left behind by the ever-dynamic global trends.
