The delay in the release of students’ results by the Lagos State University (LASU), years after their graduation, is finally taking a debilitating toll on the former. In fact, some affected graduates who are yet to take delivery of their certificates are being thrown out of job, a development that has elicited an appeal to employers of labour, by the school.

In making the appeal, the Special Taskforce on Lagos State University External System (LASUES) Examinations and Results, is imploring institutions, firms, corporate organisations that have their graduates in their employ to exercise patience with them as all issues relating to delays in processing results would soon be resolved.

Chairperson of the team, Prof. Cordelia Nwabuko, said the appeal has become necessary as some of the graduates are complaining of job losses on account of their inability to present their certificates to their employers, several years after completing their various programmes.

Nwabuko at a press briefing said the university is aware of the plight and frustration the affected persons were undergoing, hence it is approaching the resolution of the issues holistically.

She said, “The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, inaugurated the taskforce in February this year, primarily ‎to resolve all outstanding issues relating to examination and results of the external system. We had adopted an Information Communication Technology (ICT)-based strategy toward actualising our mandate.

“The volume of work in terms of number of sessions and population of students, demands the deployment of appropriate technologies. While treading softly, we have reached a point where the solutions are now accessible. It is our expectation that a good percentage of these results would be resolved and all students who met the requirement for graduation ‎would graduate in the next couple of months.

She continued, “We hereby appeal to the general public, especially employers to be patient meanwhile with students who have above issues, as all complaints will be cleared in a few months. We also appeal all affected students to assist the taskforce by visiting the website https://dpu.lasu.edu.ng and lodge in your complaints comprehensively stating the courses missed and the year or sessions taken using the complaints form provided online.”

She added that so far 2,500 results had been presented for consideration and subsequently approved by the university senate last April. The LASUES academic board as at July 21, 2016 has cleared another 1,071 students results for presentation to senate for approval, while it is expected that another 2000 results will be cleared for graduation by the end of August. Also over 47,583 students results have been extracted and uploaded.”
