Minister orders suspension of FUTA’s VC, registrar

The minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, yesterday ordered the immediate suspension of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Prof. Adebiyi Dramola.

The minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, yesterday ordered the immediate suspension of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Prof. Adebiyi Dramola.

Also suspended was the university’s Registrar, Dr. Modupe Ajayi.The Chairman of the university’s Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), ‎Dele Durojaiye confirmed the suspension.

Earlier, the vice chancellor and the bursar, Emmanuel Oresegun had been taken to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged mismanagement of the institution’s funds.

They ‎were granted bail by the High Court in Akure, the Ondo State capital.The spokesman of the university, Mr. Adebanjo Adegbenro, said he had no ‎information to why the two principal officers were suspended.

Both the VC and the registrar’s tenure were due to elapse in May before the suspension.The non-teaching staff unions of the university had called off their seven month old strike on Tuesday, over a demand that principal officers be sacked.
