Going by the projections of the facilitator and partners of the newly launched “Science Teachers’ Game” (STG), the teaching and learning of science education  in  the nation’s  secondary schools is about to receive a boost.

This will in turn change the landscape of science education as well as the fortunes of science teachers who will actively participate in the innovative game., tagged “All Schools Science Practical and Projects Academy Awards” (ASSPPAA).

According to the project facilitator and Chief Executive Officer, Laboratory Supplies & Solutions Limited, (MrLABSS),Patrick Ochuba, “STG is designed to enhance the life styles of science  teachers and students and reposition them for better opportunities.

“Teachers of Biology, Chemistry and Physics subjects are expected to register at www.assppaa.com. Registration is free. They will tell us what they are doing with their students in terms of practical and experiments in the field of science.  For every practical they do and post to the portal, we pay each teacher N1000. As that is happening, the system is generating the points of each school in the three subjects respectively.”

At the end of the session, Ochuba said, the system will shortlist about 20 teachers and students in the three subjects that have the highest points. Then, the panel of judges will invite those  with the highest score for further drilling in the game. The best Biology, Chemistry and Physics teachers in SS1, SS2 and SS3 and school managers at the end of the 2017/18 academic season will be rewarded with three brand new IVM cars, N60m and all-expense-paid-trip to Dubai.

In all, he said there would be three star winners for teachers; nine star winners for students and the school head for winning schools.“
The concept is new, innovative, interesting and full of fun for both teachers and students. Science teachers do not need to go elsewhere to play this game, but would just need to remain in their classrooms/laboratories, engage their students actively in science experiments and showcase their activities on the Assppaa-ISBORS portal.

The partners-Fidelity Bank, Konga, Systemtech and Innoson Motors, in their respective remarks said the overall aim of the project is to help improve the sector, particularly science education owing to its role in national development.
