NABTEB announces May/June 2018 examination results, tasks Nigerians on technical education

Council wants Abia employment model replicated in Niger Delta

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has announced the release of its May/June 2018 examination results.It said 32,697 of the 54,480 candidates who sat for the 2018 ordinary level National Technical Certificate (NTC) and National Business Certificate Examination (NBCE) scored five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics.

Registrar and Chief Executive of NABTEB, Professor Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, disclosed this at the weekend in Benin City Edo State, while announcing the results.She explained that candidates enrolled for 16 Engineering Trades, seven Construction Trades, nine Miscellaneous Trades, four Business Trades and 18 General Education subjects.

“Comparatively, this performance is a slight improvement over the previous year’s NBC/NTC examinations where 33,712 candidates had five credits and above including English and Mathematics.

“Also 842 candidates were involved in examination malpractice representing 1.54 per cent of the total number of candidates. Three states- Bayelsa, Borno and Edo did not record cases of examination malpractice,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the National Council on Niger Delta rose from its national meeting in Umuahia, Abia State at the weekend, urging other Niger Delta states to adopt the Abia State Education for Employment (E4E) Programme.Under the E4E Programme coordinated by Endi Ezengwa, formerly of Kiara College in the United Kingdom, youths were trained in vocational education to acquire requisite industry skills.

After their training, they would qualify not only for employment in the industries but equipped to set up their own businesses and become employers of labour.The meeting, which started last Monday, was organised by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia with the theme: Fostering Synergy and Institutional Coordination for Development of the Niger Delta Region, had 54 participating members from the nine Niger Delta states.

Relevant federal and state ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), representatives of development partners, civil society organisations (CSOs) and international oil companies also attended the event.

Although, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, attended the parley, no governor of the Niger Delta states attended the meeting despite the repeated media announcements that they would attend.However, Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu was represented by his deputy, Ude Oko Chukwu, at the opening ceremony, while Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was expected on Thursday, also failed to attend the meeting without cogent reasons.
