UBEC lauds Nasarawa over N4.3billion counterpart fund
Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Bobboyi Hammid has lauded the Nasarawa State government over increased spate of development in the education sector.Bobboyi specifically congratulated Governor Umaru Almakura for his ability to pay a counterpart fund to the tune of N4.3bilion between 2012 to 2016.
The UBEC spoke at the 20th quarterly meeting of the commission and state chairmen of SUBEBs at Taal hotel in Lafia.The theme of this year’s meeting is ‘Agriculture in basic education: Preparing the next generation of Nigeria’s agro entrepreneurs’.
“Strong emphasis must be laid on the rudiments of farming with special attention on basic knowledge and skills”. Bobboyi said.Almakura who was represented by the deputy governor Mr. Ali Agara, thanked the Board for making funds available for the state to access.He disclosed that the fund tremendously assisted the NSUBEB to embark on construction and renovation of classrooms, drilling of boreholes as well as fencing of most schools in the state.
Essentially, the governor said the funds helped to boost the quality of education in the state.He also commended president Muhammadu Buhari over his recent directive that all schools must be fenced in order to guarantee the safety of pupils and their teachers.
In his opening remarks, the state chairman of NSUBEB, Musa Dan’Azimi said the board has benefited immensely from its partnership with UBEC in the area of rehabilitation of dilapidated infrastructure in primary and secondary schools across the state as well as free distribution of textbooks.He listed other benefits to include capacity building through teacher professional development and training of quality assurance officers for compliance to quality delivery in schools.
