Hyundai unveils compact SUV
KOREAN car giant, Hyundai has revealed the all new awaited Creta for its new sub-compact SUV. The Hyundai Creta also known as ix25 is the company’s stab at the lucrative compact SUV segment in India.
Currently players like Ford, Renault and Premier are already present in the segment, with the EcoSport, Duster and Rio, respectively.
Maruti is expected to join the party soon while similarly positioned products from Tata and Mahindra are expected to be showcased in the near future. The Creta is based on the ix25 compact SUV that was unveiled in China last year.
The vehicle is likely to be a challenger for the Renault Duster. It will measure 4.27 metres in length and will have 5 seats and is expected to be powered by the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines that are found in the Verna sedan Although other details, such as the design, are being kept secret for now, the Korean car-maker did reveal that first deliveries of the Creta – a name inspired by the Greek island of Crete – will take place in India in the second half of 2015.
As the first compact SUV developed by Hyundai, the new model will rival vehicles such as the Holden Trax, Mazda CX-3 and Ford EcoSport, and will slot underneath the recently renamed Tuscon (formerly ix35).
According to Hyundai Australia’s Public Relations General Manager, Bill Thomas, Hyundai is very keen to offer a vehicle in the burgeoning compact SUV segment in Europe, but wouldn’t say if this would be the vehicle of choice.
